Australia, what an experience! This trip has been once in a lifetime for me. I was blessed to have been a part of such an amazing program with Study Abroad Campus Education Australia and to have made so many friends from all over the world.
When I first got to school, I was so nervous about meeting friends and if it would all be worth it. On my very first day, and I’m not kidding, I must’ve been approached by just about everybody in the grade. Australians are so incredibly kind and open, it was even a bit startling at first. I made friends for life, which makes it incredibly hard to leave.
Australia is such a unique and interesting place, full of amazing culture and lots of adventure. This program is a literally whatever you make of it. If your goal is to come and experience something you’ve never experienced before, this is definitely the place to do it. I found myself never bored for even one minute here, and I always found something to do when the days were slow.
My favorite memories were during the summer with all of my friends, going surfing, swimming in the ocean, getting chips with my friends, and finally getting close with such an amazing host family. My family would take me out on the boat and bring me fishing and tubing every other day. We would have barbeques down by the water on every other night and we would stay up talking and laughing until the sun went down. I met my very best friend in the world on this trip, and what’s great about being on your own is that your friends become such an important part of your life. Meeting people, while being in such a beautiful place, really is just a blast.
I’ve had countless adventures on this trip. But when I leave, I know that I will always have a home back here in Australia. You become so close with your host family, they become very important to you. I developed super close connections with my host family and was treated so nicely, with constant activities and chatting. I got to become the big sister to 6 amazing children. While this family has had such a big impact on my life, it’s strange to think that I have probably had the same to them as well.
Learning about their culture while they learned about mine was really a win-win deal. I would definitely recommend this experience for anyone looking to get out of their comfort zone a little bit, and branch out into the world.
